Regarding having all planes the same...handicaps would solve that problem and give lots of options including racing against a scanner/s ...and would also give less experienced pilots a chance to win... I really dont need another plane and motor an outlay of $500 to $600..while I already have planes that can do the job....a bit of whinging is ok isn't it? Or maybe a special forum!
Ha! Ken, a good whinge is worth it! I dont see any reason y we cant have a good time/do with the migs? is cheap if / when I crash it, The scanner is different though, could join in with other clubs in racing, or maybe they may come to us, once they c the faculties we have. Might bring different ideas, inputs etc. Oh well, u all enjoy this heat, I gotta go to work in a bit. be home late, at least it will cool down soon.
I'm thinking about the easiest way for handicapping. If it were one design that was the same weight, glow or ekectic and size (smaller Mig) handicapping the thrust would work. Just use some fishing scales, string to go around the tail and a smooth table would work. Limit throttle travel to match the model with the least thrust. I'm not sure how that would work with arming the ESC when you plug a flattery in though.
Not sure with different sizes and types though, unless everything is against the clock like Dave's system.

Does the scanner racing in QLD start their race on the ground like international FAI pylon racing or like large scale racing (and full size) by counting down to a mass start?

If it's a ground start, staggered starts following qualifying trials would also work. That way there wouldn't be any messing around with the throttle limit. It wouldn't cater for the scoundrels that would purposefully fly slowly or poorly during qualifying though. That would work for an in-club competition I would expect. It would be wise to make our own events the same as scanner racing for the benefit of our serious pilots who wish to take it to the next level.
I think we would quickly work out who was "fudging it" they would have to be very skilful to hide ..to "just win" when starting from a long way in front would be difficult....besides we have a police man ,a parson, and many other beady eyed members who would quickly pick up on any dishonest goings on.... just realised I am talking about something we have already done ....open slather pylon racing ...but without the handicap.

Firstly I fully support anything that promotes flying at the club. I know Greg and Peter have had Pylon Racing designs for some time. With that in mind. Next Sundays meeting would be perfect to round off some of your thoughts and present the idea to the club. Perhaps after some discussion and points raised you could come back on the forum with a concrete plan. At the moment the only concern I would have is $100 prize for a three plane race.

Secondly JR there appears to be enough interest to try Wednesday Flying again. Could you arrange for a Wednesday Flyers Topic for me please. It might also pay to remove the old pylon racing page. In the event there is forward progress with the latest scanner interest a different pylon racing forum might be needed to air ideas.

Thirdly. Ken I think you've raised some valid issues. I'm off to the shed. High Ho Hi Ho its an Eindecker Pylon racer I grow
Ken, thanks 4 the laugh. I agree Dave, But was initially wondering, if there is/was any interest in trying a scanner race. I think there is 3 people interested so far. And was partly thinking with the way some clubs are limited with room and noise, we maybe able 2 get some flyers up 2 Wck. From what Ive heard, scanner racing is getting popular. Plus I think our club needs some events to generate interest, and more social fun. Like take a book on how long I can go without crashing. Prize split between me and whoever guesses correctly!! So pylon racing with the el-cheapo Mig 7?? My sugestion, is 2 build it 1st, and c if they fly!! (brilliant suggestion).

Hey, just noticed!! How come the Links page, and the clubs, traders sections, Still have nothing on them. Went looking 4 the suppliers, (like we used 2 b able 2 on the old web site) but we have nothing on this one?

Hopefully the next working bee will be the end of next week, hopeing to pick up rocks & sticks so that the ride on doesn't send a rock thru the new glass sliding door or dent the shed. Not hard work just need a wheel barrow & a rake. A dozen blokes 2hrs should see it done.
