when you walk past the trade counter, you go thru the doors leading out to the plasterboard & sheeting area drive thru and straight in front of you on the rack half way up is the black
2.5mm corflute.

Just got back from Bris...... will bring the MIG down on Wednesday Arvo so we can check out the motor etc first hand...Going to Bunnies tomorrow to check out the corflute sizes, weight ect.

RE: "SPAD" Simple Plastic Aircraft Design - KENNYGLIDE - 14-06-2019

Just thinking ...we make a complete set of templates first up from 3mm corflute. Then it will be easy to trace around the pieces for the other models rather than working with paper and depron ...we would then have permanent templates to make bits as required after crashes ect. Alternatively we could make the templates out of MDF but would be more difficult to cut . We could start on Sunday..morning ...I will be flying Sunday arvo....i will supply a sheet of 3mm to get started...will need some sharp knives and marking pens . Will need at least 3 people to start with Stanley knives and some good scissors....probably need cutting boards of some sort...MDF sheets or similar....

I'll bring out a cutting board and some scalpel knives & Stanley knives and there are some sheets of corflute in the machinery shed. Supposed to be raining tonight and in the morning (Sunday) so good excuse to get started.

Good progress today...all the templates have been cut out thanks to some keen club members. They are now at the clubhouse and  available to anyone who would like to use them to mark out their pieces onto the corflute .... you could then cut them out at home in your own time if preferred.....the TEMPLATES MUST REMAIN AT THE CLUBHOUSE.......I am thinking maybe 3mm corflute instead of 5mm for most of the formers ....they are  much easier to cut than the 5mm ....especially the small pieces. The intention is to then have a day to show everyone how to assemble the pieces of the jigsaw...hopefully 4 or 5 planes will be the end result of the effort... i will also make up a list of the required parts for the  MIG.at a later date. This pic will give an idea how many pieces have to be cut....PS: Greg i think they are your sunglasses on the table.

RE: "SPAD" Simple Plastic Aircraft Design - KENNYGLIDE - 18-06-2019

Tried heat gun instead of the gas flame to flash the corflute .... gave more control ....and then wiped it over with methylated spirits to help change the surface structure and remove any oils left over from manufacture of the corflute.... then smoothed some cheap contact cement (PARFIX) over both surfaces waited a while and pressed them together by hand only, and it appears to be a success. I noticed some people use WINDEX ...to wipe down after flashing... so could be even better.... and perhaps a more expensive brand of contact cement may do an even better job. PS. APOLOGIES.....I posted. this discussion in the GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS inadvertently. Best to keep the SPADS in this forum.

RE: "SPAD" Simple Plastic Aircraft Design - KENNYGLIDE - 06-07-2019

Please let me know when all those interested have cut their pieces out for the MIG, we can then go ahead with the building process.... we will need to arrange for a generator or something to supply power for the glue guns.... if we can get the bench jigsaw set up that would be good for cutting the thicker confluse especially the formers .... Jason has said he will allow us to use his cordless jigsaw , we will just have to set it up on a bench and maybe get a more suitable blade for cutting the corflute. ..if some members can set the bench up I will see about purchasing a blade ....the ones I am looking at are fairly specialised and cost about $12.....we also have the 30% larger MIG, templates courtesy of Marcel, so it would be good if we could have another day to cut templates from them for the club to keep, as the originals have to go back to Marcel. These larger templates are for a 46 size glow engined plane...should be really quick but still glide relatively well....can those interested folk please communicate their interest via this forum , it really difficult to keep this project moving when I don't know what people are doing ., wanting ,and when..I think we are going to have to make dedicated days to get together for these builds so we can arrange for tools , knives glue etc to be available on the day...all suggestions greatly appreciated. ...we now have a fantastic clubhouse let's make the most of it.

I've traced mine out, haven't cut yet, received my motor & 70amp esc the other day. Just gotta buy the timber for the spar and wings.

Those templates I made are for the club. If I need to make another section or whole model, I'll just borrow them.
