Peter T's experiment with Gyro copters; needs a few modifications after test flight.
Photo's are a bit blurred but not as blurred as the copter is now!!

It flew exactly as the full-size ones did on their maiden flights back when I was a kid in the 80's.

Whats wrong Marcel?? The Gyro copter flew around the field quite well. Just because the landing was a bit hard??

Ahhm... I'm not quite sure if flying half a circuit under partial control could be deemed as flying "quite well"...

The out-landing was quite abrupt, that bit I agree with. When I flew Ziggy's or Vince's many years ago, it flew the same, only I fluked a little less than vertical arrival on the tarmac, which chipped the blades a bit from memory.

It's always exciting to see something fly that's a little different. Thanks for the excitement Peter T.

What do u mean partial control?? It was under full control when it flew, The control seemed 2 disappear when I wanted 2 turn towards the strip 4 landing. Just landed in the paddock instead. Ha!! Yes, is/was a bit different 4 sure. I thought it would fly in a light breeze better, but the Gyro just got blown away.

Finished putting together my Scanner this evening. I was looking for a brass Dubro spinner that I was sure I had, along with a silicone muffler extension. Couldn't find either... but I did find another OS46AX sitting in my display cabinet! All after waiting to find one pop up on RC Trader for several months
...now how do I sneak another Scanner onto the dining room table to assemble over another 2 weeks without Catherine noticing that it's actually a second one?...

Go Marcel. Just dont show her it completed. Just say u had to pull it apart for some modifications! Or do some if she works a double shift. Thats where it helps if u have a few sheds, c/vans etc. U can hide them like another member does. ha! Go Marcel!! Ps, dont let her on this site, or your cover is blown.

It was a little daunting this afternoon, arriving with my Scanner to maiden and seeing Gbar's #2 Scanner laying in the back of his ute, in kit form, again. Well done on the super-swift rebuild though Gbar. Record time!

Mine performed well. No surprises with mine. Everything was super predictable on low rates (11mm of travel) and even on high rates, it almost refused to stall power off and during power-on full-pull turns. It eventually tried to roll out of the turn, but only when the speed bled off. It could also have been torque induced, I'm not sure. It appears that glow engines go out of tune a little when one of the two carby retaining screws falls out during flight. It seems the big gaping hole left behind leans out the mixture somewhat...

I hope the forecast for rain on the Gold Coast holds off. Can't wait to hear how our local talent fares at the Scanner racing there this weekend.

Hi All, 
During these days of being locked up, I thought about cleaning up the workshop, for the 3rd time in as many weeks but a box on top of many other box's caught my eye. Inside was a Stiletto 40 low wing 1520 span, made by VMAR, a fairly well made ARF kit by today's standard. So I made yet another mess in the workshop, just finished putting the final touches on it, range testing begins tomorrow. What I did find was on the box, it stated a 60 four stroke was suitable, yes!! I have one sitting in a box, no frigging way will it fit. Tried various other motors, too no avail, ended up putting a OS Max 46 FX in, very tight fit. I've used Hitec servos with a 2S lipo battery for power, a Orange R920X with Telemetry so I can monitor rx fades or holds.

The only four stroke you'd fit in there would be some of the new generation Saito's. They are really narrow and light. My 82 in my Wot 4 is the same mounting dimensions as your 46 and 10 grams lighter than a 55AX. Power is much the same as your 46 if you were allowing your 46 to rev to 17000 revs, but who does that.

This is what I've been doing. Mounting a REAL ENGINE to the 'Quickie' (as it is labeled inside) which I bought from the club, as part of the donations by Lindsay recently (see website for other tender items). $30 three-channel model now with a AP 15 in the nose. Flew it for the first time on Friday, from our orchard. Nice and quiet, but not a power house. Not easy to tune, as it doesn't have a low-speed needle. The high-speed needle does affect the low speed, so a compromise is all I can get. Good enough for my boys to train with. Better than a Bixler, as the ESC overheats running at part throttle all the time.
